We have found that one of the most important advantages of a set of oven mitts is the fact that they offer a very solid hold onto the hot surface of your cast iron oven. To make sure you’re getting all of the benefits of using these oven mitts, be sure to read through all of the information we have listed below. This will give you a better idea on exactly what oven mitts we think you should be looking for when shopping for cast iron oven mitts.
Our two favorite oven mitts that are made by Weber are their butterfly style, as well as the traditional oven mitts. The Butterfly has a nice smooth top to it, while the traditional oven mitts have a stiffer more grippy silicone exterior. Both styles are very durable, which is a plus in our book. The advantage to the butterfly style is that it has an all around grip. This makes it much easier to cook with and you don’t have to worry about damaging your knuckles or fingers by losing your grip.
Our second pick is the Weber pumpkin spice flavored silicone oven mitts. We like these because they offer a bit of a thicker grip. This makes it much easier to cook with and allows your hand to remain very close to the heat source. Another great feature is the lining that Weber offers. These lines of silicone oven mitts have a very nice lined interior that keeps foods from sticking to the pan.
Our third choice is the Cuisinart electric griddle set which offers two separate handle styles. We prefer the flat surface handle style because it is not slick like some of the other kitchen utensil handle designs. The flat handle also provides us with more control when working with heavy pots and pans.
Another consideration in our top three picks are the Toastess miniature electric griddle set and the Toastess nonstick pan. The Toastess pans are a little more expensive, but they do stand up to heat well and hold up over time. We particularly like the nonstick surface on the Toastess pans. With electric cooktops becoming so popular right now, we don’t see the need to use traditional oven mitts to transfer hot items to the stove.
The last option on our list for oven mitts is the Villaware double stoneware pot holders. These are quite bulky and don’t fold down. They are also very thick, which makes them difficult to maneuver as you have to use two hands to manage them. We do find the sturdy construction and easy cleanup to be advantageous. The only real downfall is that they cost almost twice as much as the others we looked at. For this price, however, we feel that they offer excellent value.
The final set we want to look at is the Coleman Procast T-Bar Iron Cookware Collection. Like most of the other brands we looked at, this set offers good value with excellent heat resistant material and good overall performance. One of the standout features is the fact that all six of the pieces fit inside the handle, allowing you to transfer pans from one bowl to another with ease. Another great thing about this set is that it offers a lip around the handle to help prevent drips and spills. The only thing we didn’t like about this set is that the heat resistant material was a little thin, which may be enough of an issue for some people.
With these four options in our comparison, we find that there is a fairly clear winner when it comes to choosing the best oven mitts for cast iron or silicone cookware. In terms of price, we think that the Coleman Procast T Bars is a good deal as they fall right within the mid-range, but offer excellent value. The Silicone ones definitely win the price war, but come up just short in terms of overall quality.
